Lights are required for these paddles. No lights, no paddle, it's the law.
TIME & PLACE:
Meet at the Virginia Key Outdoor Center on Virginia Key at least an hour before the launch time in order for check ins.We will return in the dark, lights are required for this paddle. If you reserved through VKOC, lights are included in the reservations.
This paddle is suitable for beginners. The Lagoon has sheltered waters regardless of winds.
Final destination and route are subject to weather. The lagoon is always sheltered and the creek is calm. We'll paddle to Norris Cut and either the beach side or the port. Both are spectacular at night. It will be dark so please, stay together.
We'll make a stop on the water along the way from which we can enjoy the sights.
Absolutely. Bring something for the grill, a beverage and a dry change of clothes. Bring something to share and be prepared to chill with new and old friends. Dominoes, music, view the lovely night sky... If you drink you must drink responsibly. We do not sell or serve alcohol. Beer and wine are ok but you must bring your own. Hard liquor is not welcome.
Soft drinks, snacks, insect repellent, and lights are available from the park store.
Kayaks, Paddleboards, and Surf Skis are available for rent through Virginia Key Outdoor Center. All Rentals include kayak/paddle board, paddle, life jacket, and light.

DIRECTIONS: From the mainland, head towards Key Biscayne on the Rickenbacker Causeway Go past the toll plaza and the the Powell Bridge (tall bridge) Continue to the light at MAST Academy Take your first left immediately after the MAST Academy Light (there is NO light, just a turn lane) Look for a brown and gold sign on the fence and Green gatehouse Continue to gate and let them know you are here for the kayak and paddleboard trip Continue towards the right fork of the road for approx 1.25 mi. At the end of the road make a left and quick right Follow signs to Virginia Key Outdoor Center on your left, lagoon is on your right
PARKING Please park in the VKOC parking lot.
WHAT TO BRING:
Your boat, your paddle, your PFD (which you will wear), lights for night paddling, drinks and snack food, bug spray is recommended just in case. Don't forget your camera and cheerful disposition.
This paddle is operated by Virginia Key Outdoor Center. We will stay together and share the evening. Each participant is responsible for his or her own equipment, safety and enjoyment. Bring a friendly attitude and you are sure to enjoy the evening.
